Small Change Fund: Program Support Associate
Part-time (3 days per week)

Job Summary
Small Change Fund is a young and rapidly evolving organization searching for our first Program Support Associate. As our Program Support Associate you will have the chance to learn from and shape the future of an award-winning organization, and have an impact on the grassroots projects we support. Reporting to the Program Director, the Program Support Associate will build sustainable relationships with northern and southern partners of Small Change Fund and Mamow Sha-way-gi-kay-win: North-South Partnership for Children (NSP).

Your energy, enthusiasm and creativity lend well to Small Change Fund’s team, who believe that flexibility, an enterprising spirit, and positive outlook contribute to enabling us to consistently innovate in the area of grassroots giving. The Program Support Associate’s main focus will be to broker resources, and train youth leaders as young people in remote Northern Ontario communities determine their priorities and deliver programs as required.

Responsibilities

Building Relationships & Networking:

  • Regular formal and informal (social media) communication with children and youth involved in a project to connect Northern youth leaders with resources to create projects benefiting their communities
  • Initiate and sustain relationships with children, youth, and youth influencers in the north and south. This can include, but not limited to:
  • Attending conferences/special events
  • Updating social media and communication teachings, in collaboration with Communications Director
  • Network with other NGO’s, government, organizations and individuals to determine potential partnerships that will benefit the project
  • Field queries from partners on youth engagement activities
  • Sit on outside committees representing the Small Change Fund as required

Outreach & Project Delivery:

  • Create resource kits for northern youth; with the goal of enabling youth to create environmental and social justice projects, and finding funding support for these projects
  • Presenting resources to youth, and training them to use the tools in resource kits
  • Represent and support the priorities of northern young people as they determine them
  • Provide orientation and training for youth about Small Change Fund’s mission, vision, guiding principles and goal of the organization
  • Develop youth advisory groups of northern/southern members and work together
  • Organize outreach activities including:
    • workshops
    • presentations
    • conferences / special events

Administrative & Organizational:

  • Responsible for administrative, logistical and organizational requirements for the project
  • Support the communications of youth participants

Characteristics:

  • Ability to work in a non-traditional environment, flexible, adaptable, self-driven and organized
  • Strong, proven ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to think critically
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Excellent presentations skills (comfortable speaking in front of large audiences of children, youth and adults)
  • Ability to review, synthesize information and produce appropriate reports and proposals

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children/youth and an ability to engage and support young people through youth-driven activities, programs, projects and initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of available resource tools for young people, in the north, who are experiencing challenges and the ability to make the appropriate linkages
  • Familiarity with current and historical issues facing Aboriginal people in Ontario
  • Strong knowledge of United Nation Convention on the Rights of a Child (CRC), Declaration on Rights of Indigenous People and the Rights of Indigenous Children
  • Familiar with recent developments in child participation/youth engagement and community development models
  • Proven computer skills using Microsoft office (Word, Excel and Power Point)
  • Familiar with current social media resources
  • Familiarity with partner organizations in Ontario working with young people
  • Ability to speak Oji-Cree an asset
