““We would like to thank LUSH Cosmetics for their donation, without it we would not have been able to create a dynamic, skilled and creative Home Team building the youth climate movement in Canada. We would also like to thank LUSH Cosmetics for their continued commitment to work with grassroots groups in protecting our planet, from their help with tar sands campaigning, to helping the Canadian Youth Delegation and beyond.” ”
Cameron Fenton, Director of the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition
Project Profile
This project has been fully funded by LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics.
In late 2010 the Canadian Youth Home Team asked for support to engage the young people of Canada with the then upcoming United Nations Climate Change Meeting, COP16 that took place in Cancun, Mexico.
Thanks to LUSH Handmade Cosmetics the Canadian Youth Home Team were able to provide a coordinator to support young volunteers all across Canada with a passion for improving Canada’s place on the environmental world stage. The $5000 donated was used to build volunteer capacity through online training, mentorship and networking, as well as developing and distributing resources to the young participants across the country.
Cameron Fenton, Director of the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition reports that the funding allowed the organization to connect the Canadian Youth Delegation in Mexico with a trained and active Home Team back here in Canada, creating two teams working closely both in Cancun and in Canada.
Because of the funding raised on the Small Change Fund website, the group were able to bring together both the Cancun and Home Teams for a 3 day training in the fall of 2010, developing a collaborative strategy for communications and actions that was then rolled out through the negotiations, connecting thousands of youth from coast to coast to coast.
The Canadian Youth Delegation also said that Small Change Fund is amazing tool for grassroots groups to connect with funders, it helps groups like theirs to realize their dream projects, creating a link between small groups and the resources they need to build a clean, just and more sustainable future.
The Canadian Youth Delegation are regrouping for COP17 in Durban, South Africa in late 2011.
“I can tell you that I feel way less hopeless, crushed, and burnt-out than I did last yearafter Copenhagen. The feeling is perhaps more similar to how I felt after Poznan, another designated “stepping stone” conference. But have we just set ourselves up for a Copenhagen repeat one or two years from now, though? I desperately hope not, because we simply cannot afford another Copenhagen.” - Thea Whitman

We work locally, provincially, federally, and internationally to combine our efforts to implement concrete solutions to this crisis that we all need to see. We work in partnership with Tides Canada Foundation.
