Project Profile

Protecting the Bay of Fundy
Fredericton, NB
RAISED: $1250

This project has been fully funded by LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics and individual donors.

Fundy Baykeeper, a program of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick, works to protect and ensure the ongoing health and well being of the Bay of Fundy. We urgently needed a motor to power our small boat.

Back in January 2011 we were delighted to feature the Conservation Council of New Brunswick’s Fundy Baykeeper programme.

The project needed $1250 to obtain a motor for their small boat that is used to investigate, intervene, and document activities that threaten the environment of the Bay of Fundy, a special area for many reasons.  The Bay of Fundy has the highest tide in the world, as high as a four-storey house!

Pollution, industrial activity, coastal development, and unsustainable fishing practices are taking their toll on the bay, and the poorer water quality has lead to a decline in biological diversity.

Prior to receiving the funds for the motor, the Fundy Baykeepers could only patrol the shoreline as far as their boat could be rowed by oars.  A noble but tiring cause.

“It’s so important for groups like our own, which are doing physical work in a marine environment, often in dangerous areas, to have good equipment that works well.  Thanks again Small Change Fund, keep up the good work.” David Thomas, Fundy Baykeeper.

Thanks to the generous support of people like you, and of LUSH Handmade Cosmetics, the Baykeepers can do much more to preserve their shoreline.

David Thomas and Matt Abbot two of the Fundy Baykeepers you have helped, explain in this video what difference you have made.  Thank you.

Conservation Council of New Brunswick, Fundy Baykeeper Program

Fundy Baykeeper, a program of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick, works to protect and ensure the ongoing health and well being of the Bay of Fundy. To carry out this mandate, we patrol the waters and coastline of the Bay to spot and investigate environmental threats and take appropriate action to solve them.
