The partnership — Small Change Fund and Ashoka Changemakers are working together on Changemakers Initiative: Inspiring Approaches to First Nations, Métis and Inuit Learning, a competition that catalyzes projects that support First Nations, Métis and Inuit learners to succeed.

 
 

Logo: Canada Water Week

The partner — The Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, Living Lakes Canada and Small Change Fund have teamed up for Canada Water Week, is a week-long celebration of water from coast-to-coast-to-coast, starting March 14 and culminating with World Water Day on March 22, 2011. Individuals, organizations and governments across the country are encouraged to get involved by organizing or participating in fun and educational events. Together, we will raise the profile and understanding of water and its importance to Canada’s prosperity.

The partnership — Canada Water Week and Small Change Fund are excited to be working together to support grassroots water projects in Canada.  During the month of March community-based water initiatives will gain profile on the Small Change Fund website encouraging individual donors to support their causes.  Up to $5000 will be donated to each of these important initiatives. The partnership — The Catherine Donnelly Foundation and Small Change Fund are working together to enable grassroots leaders to use digital storytelling to increase their reach, by giving them tools to amplify their voice.  Our work together will provide training and resources to grassroots groups, and support them to each create videos to share their compelling stories.

The partnerThe Centre for Social Innovation is a social enterprise with a mission to catalyze social innovation in Toronto and around the world. We believe that society is facing unprecedented economic, environmental, social and cultural challenges. We also believe that new innovations are the key to turning these challenges into opportunities to improve our communities and our planet.

The partnership — Small Change Fund moved to the centre in June 2011 and we are already benefiting from working alongside a wonderful community of social entrepreneurs, non-profits, and creative thinkers.  Not to mention free coffee and salad socials each Wednesday!

The partner — The EJLB Foundation is committed to the protection of the environment, mainly through the acquisition and preservation, throughout Canada, of natural areas of ecological significance or of importance to the urban landscape. The Foundation also provides support, on a case-by-case basis, for a variety of other concrete environmental endeavours.

The partnership — The EJLB Foundation was one of the first supporters of Small Change Fund. They are a foundation that supports good ideas and helps catalyze innovative initiatives. They have provided generous support to build Small Change Fund’s marketing and communications capacity to efficiently reach out to a growing circle of people who want to support grassroots action.

The partnerGallivan Media has been developing websites since 1997, working with accomplished firms in various creative, technical and analytical realms. Their projects include Rogers, Fido, Blockbuster Canada, the Fresh Coffee Network, and EyeBuyArt.com. They are a small, nimble firm dedicated to realizing the forward-thinking potential of the Internet.

The partnership — Amidst a sea of confusing website programming proposals full of technical jargon and strange language, Gallivan Media came forward with a simple, straightforward, digestible plan for how to build Small Change Fund’s website. Not only that but Gallivan Media offered to provide us with free training on all aspects of website upkeep and maintenance as their contribution to the vision of Small Change Fund.

The partnerGlobal Greengrants Fund makes grants (typically $500 to $5,000) to grassroots groups in some of the world’s most despoiled and impoverished places where other sources of support often are not available. Since their first grant in 1993, Greengrants has made more than 3500 grants to groups in over 120 countries. They believe that grassroots groups are a key to solving the intractable problems of poverty, powerlessness and environmental destruction.

The partnership — Small Change Fund is the Canadian partner in the Global Greengrants Alliance of Funds. Along with the Center for Socio-Environmental Support – CASA in Brazil, The Samdhana Institute in Southeast Asia, and the Fondo Accion Solidaria (Solidarity in Action Fund) in Mexico, Small Change Fund helps to mobilize new financial and material support, strengthen local and national networks, and advocate for the power of small change.

The partner — The Ivey Foundation is a private charitable foundation located in Toronto, Canada. It was incorporated without share capital as The Richard Ivey Foundation on December 31, 1947 under the laws of the Province of Ontario by the late Richard G. Ivey, Q.C., LL.D., and his son, Richard M. Ivey, C.C., Q.C., LL.D. Since 1947 the Foundation has made grants totalling $69.1 million. With roots in London, Ontario, it helped establish that city as a centre of health-care excellence and home to a leading research-intensive university. Today, the Conserving Canada's Forests Program provides critical support for environmental sustainability across the country. Throughout its long and rich history, the Foundation has maintained a focus on the pursuit and support of excellence, but has also embraced change as a necessary element in its evolution.

The partnership — Small Change Fund and Ivey Foundation are working together to support grassroots actions in support of communities across the Boreal forest, in support of the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement.

The partner — Mamow Sha-way-gi-kay-win/The North-South Partnership for Children is a dynamic and evolving partnership that began in 2006 as the coming together of First Nation Chiefs, Elders and youth living in remote communities in northwestern Ontario with caring individuals and voluntary organizations based in southern Ontario.

The partnership — Mamow Sha-way-gi-kay-win/The North-South Partnership for Children and Small Change Fund are working together to plan and deliver a two-day workshop for young First Nations leaders living in remote Ontario communities, taking place in Thunder Bay in September. Together we will train youth leaders in how to develop community improvement projects, and then how to use social media to gain support for those projects.

The partner — The McLean Foundation was established in 1945 by the late Mr. J. S. McLean with gifts and bequests made to the Foundation from Mrs. J. S. McLean and other members of the family. They have been strong advocates of the environment giving away between a quarter and a third of their money to environmental causes from year to year.

The partnership — The McLean Foundation is one of those Foundations that believe in a vision and help make it a reality. They are a nimble foundation that helps seed good ideas and catalyze innovative initiatives. The McLean Foundation has given Small Change Fund much needed capacity building support as well as a generous donation to support the projects profiled on smallchangefund.org. In so doing, they are helping  you make something big with small change.

The partner — The goal of the Metcalf Foundation is to enhance the effectiveness of people and organizations working together to help Canadians imagine and build a just, healthy and creative society. Their work is grounded in the belief that change happens when we share hopeful visions of the future, work and learn collectively, think broadly in pursuit of comprehensive solutions, and take a meaningful role in the decisions that affect our lives.

The partnership — The the Metcalf Foundation believes that non-profit organizations play a critical role as catalysts, to animate and facilitate lasting change. They also believe in supporting innovation – in developing new ideas and exploring new applications for existing models. The Foundation is supporting Small Change Fund to put these two beliefs together – to develop an innovative platform to support grassroots groups and create the space for people to connect, communicate, and participate.

Logo: National Environmental Treasure

The partnerNational Environmental Treasure is a people’s trust fund devoted to the exclusive funding of Canadian environmental organizations, to increase their core capacity. NET is particularly interested in supporting the under-funded smaller and medium-sized organizations, working in local communities and regions. Their goal is to build a 30 million dollar public charitable foundation for the environment – the equivalent of every Canadian donating a “loonie” for their environment.

The partnership — A few years ago National Environmental Treasure launched into a research project on microphilanthropy and citizen engagement. NET was interested in exploring new models of micro-philanthropy, on-line giving, public engagement strategies and the potential of issue-based charitable giving platforms in the areas of things like climate change, indigenous peoples’ rights, and water security. Because Small Change Fund and NET share so many of the same values and goals, and because NET believes so strongly in innovation and collaboration, we work closely together to collectively advance the cause of grassroots giving.

The partner — The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), one of Canada’s leading grantmaking foundations, is an agency of the Government of Ontario. The Ontario Trillium Foundation is a catalyst that enables Ontarians to work together to enhance the quality of life in their communities. They believe that communities across Ontario are rich in talent, creativity and drive, and Trillium Foundation grants stimulate communities to build on these assets. 

The partnership — Small Change Fund Inc. has received multi-year funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to hire an Executive Director, create a  strategic plan, start an internship program, and contribute to Ontario environmental groups with small grants. This support from Trillium will help us enormously to build our capacity and support grassroots action across the province.

The partnership — Small Change Fund and Public Inc. are working together to build a communications campaign to spread the word about amazing grassroots projects that are taking place across Canada.

The partnership — The Salesforce.com Foundation is based on a simple idea: Donate 1% of salesforce.com’s resources to support organizations that are working to make our world a better place. Small Change Fund is honoured to be a recipient organization of a donation of product from the Salesforce.com Foundation.

The partnerSiG is a national collaborative partnership between The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, the University of Waterloo, the MaRS Discovery District, and the PLAN Institute that advances new approaches to addressing persistent social and environmental issues.
The strategic focus at SiG@MaRS is capacity building for social innovation through direct support by means of trainings, workshops, direct customized consultations and lectures and resources.

The partnershipSiG@MaRS provides access to resources that can help Small Change Fund turn our ideas into positive outcomes for society, enhancing the quality of life for people in Ontario and across Canada. SiG@MaRS is helping Small Change Fund explore new instruments of social finance, foster opportunities for technology platforms to help scale social ventures, enhance our networks, and help support the launch and growth of Small Change Fund as a new social venture.

The partnerStudio:Blackwell is a graphic design studio practice, dedicated to the planning, design and production of creative projects across disciplines. Its small scale allows for close collaboration – with writers, artists, editors, curators, architects, and clients interested in engaging in a considered design process, planned specifically to achieve their objectives.

The partnership — Kelsey Blackwell, principal of Studio:Blackwell, was hooked the first time she heard about the design brief for Small Change Fund. As a start-up with few resources, Small Change Fund didn’t have a lot of cash to spend on identity and design but Kelsey said that the vision embedded in Small Change Fund was more important to her than her hourly rate so she gave us a deal. Studio:Blackwell is the creative mind behind Small Change Fund’s identity and website. Not to mention the source of a lot of strategic suggestions and recommendations.
